On a road trip from Berlin to Amsterdam, the driver stops at a charger operated by a Dutch network they have no account with, and holds up the card from their German provider.

Why this matters

Before roaming, this needed a separate app and account for every network in every country. The promise of OCPI is that one card works everywhere, even across a border.

The Dutch CPO has never seen this German token, so it asks the token's owner in real time: it POSTs to the German eMSP's authorize endpoint, naming the location.

Power starts flowing.

The driver unplugs and drives on.
